Day-by-Day Travel Plan
Itinerary & Trip Details
Gujarat – the western state of India is known for its diverse tourism products ranging from Architectural Monuments, Textile and Handicrafts to the natural landscapes. The Textile Legacy of Gujarat starts from the Indus Valley Civilization and with great trade relations with the whole world, new textile arts developed and has been in place in Gujarat. This Tour will focus on visiting various artisans of different textile arts and handicrafts and learning about the same.
Day 1: Bhuj
The tour starts at Bhuj in kutch district known for its diverse textile arts and handicrafts. Post check in and freshen up, visit the LLDC Museum in Ajrakhpur to get a detailed understanding of various textile arts in the district. Visit the Ajrakh artisans – the block printing art known to be in use since the Indus Valley Civilization days. Overnight at Bhuj.
Day 2: Bhuj – Nirona – Bhuj
The highlight of the second day tour will be Rogan Art – a Persian Oil based Art in Nirona village practiced by a single Khatri family in the whole world. Nirona Village is also known for the Copper Bell Art and the Lacquer Art on wood which signifies the diversity of handicrafts on Cloth, Metal and Wood in a single village. Overnight at Bhuj.
Day 3: Bhuj – Hodko – Dhordo – Bhuj
The third day starts with a drive of about 1.5 hours to Hodko where resides the Marwadi Meghwal community known for their Mirror Art and the Leather Work. Have a great lunch with the community people and learn about their handicrafts. Also visit the White Desert of Kutch – which throngs with crowds of people during the White Desert festival in the winter month. Return back to Bhuj and Overnight at Bhuj.
Day 4: Bhuj – Mundra – Bhuj
Visit the Royal Palaces of Bhuj – the Prag Mahal and the Aina Mahal along with the Kutch Museum to get more insight on the district of Kutch. Also visit the artisans of the Bandhani Art – the tie and dye art very famous in the whole state. Post noon, visit Mundra – the industrial hub of Kutch to meet the artians of Batik Print Art – a wax based block printing art. Return back to Bhuj and Overnight at Bhuj.
Day 5: Bhuj – LRK
A long drive of about 5 hours awaits to the Little Rann of Kutch – known for the salt farmers and the Indian Wild Asses. An evening Safari at the Little Rann of Kutch is a must where scores of migratory birds visit during the winters. Meet the salt farmers known as the Agariyas, learn about the process of farming of salt and have a great lemon tea with them. Overnight at LRK.
Day 5: LRK – Modhera – Patan – Ahmedabad
Today Morning visit the Tangalia Shawl Artisans in Bajana – an ancient weaving technique. Post that, drive to Modhera and visit its World Famous Sun Temple – an architectural masterpiece of the Solanki rule in Gujarat where mathematics meets precision. Visit Patan – the first capital of Gujarat to meet the Patola Artisans. Patola is a rare double Ikat weaving Art which was once practised by over 700 families in Patan and currently only 2 family in Patan. Also visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Rani Ki Vav – a 11th century 7-Storeyed stepwell constructed a Queen in memory of her King and boasting of more than 500 Hindu God Sculptors. Drive to Ahmedabad and Overnight at Ahmedabad.
Day 6: Ahmedabad
An early morning heritage walk of the World Heritage City of Ahmedabad is a perfect way to start the day which starts a Hindu Temple to the Muslim Mosque converging through the hundreds of Pols and Jain Temples on the way. Post that, visit the Mata ni Pachedi Artists who dedicate their art as a form of Worship towards Goddess. Visit the Sabarmati Ashram, established by Mahatma Gandhi and an important monument in Indian Independence History and learn about khadi, a handspun and handwoven fabric. Overnight at Ahmedabad.
Day 7: Ahmedabad
Today morning after breakfast, visit the Calico Museum of Textile, one of the best Textile museums in the world where a guided tour takes your down the memory lane of the various textile techniques. Post that visit the Shreyas Folk Museum to see a diverse range of Gujarati Handicrafts and an evening stroll at the Law Garden market will be perfect anecdote to the greatly knowledgeable day. Overnight at Ahmedabad.
Day 8: Ahmedabad – Surat
Today morning after breakfast, proceed towards Surat(230 kms/4 Hours) – the Diamond cum Silk City of India known for its Diamond Cutting and Polishing plus the large textile industry flourishing in the city. Visit the saree stitching and knitting units and the large textile markets with thousands of shops thronging the city. Overnight at Surat.
Day 9:Drop
Today, the textile tour of Gujarat ends with loads of memories and drop as per schedule.
